Orthognanthic Surgery

Some patients have severe bite problems or significant esthetic issues due to excess or deficient growth of their jaws. In addition to orthodontic treatment, these patients may benefit from Orthognathic Surgery, a form of oral surgery intended to correct the jaw position.

Dr. Waldman will work in close coordination with an oral surgeon to plan this treatment and achieve a successul result.

What exactly is orthognathic surgery?

Orthognathic surgery is a procedure that aims to correct discrepancies in the jaw and face related to structure and growth. It is also referred to as corrective jaw surgery.

Orthognathic surgery tends to be undertaken towards the end of your orthodontic treatment journey. Following surgery, you generally continue with your orthodontic treatment with fixed braces for another six to nine months. These will then be removed and you will be provided with retainers to help maintain the new position of your teeth.
