What exactly is orthognathic surgery?
Orthognathic surgery is a procedure that aims to correct discrepancies in the jaw and face related to structure and growth. It is also referred to as corrective jaw surgery.
Orthognathic surgery tends to be undertaken towards the end of your orthodontic treatment journey. Following surgery, you generally continue with your orthodontic treatment with fixed braces for another six to nine months. These will then be removed and you will be provided with retainers to help maintain the new position of your teeth.
